Required Info for quoting an Electric Injection Molding Machine
The goal is to make sure that your mold will fit, the screw will work with your material, and your process will operate as good and better than it currently does. We will need this information to complete a quote for your injection molding machine Below we’ve explained why we need each piece of information and why it is helpful.
All Electric from 35 US tons to 1450 US tons
What is the machine size of the Electric Injection Molding Machine you are considering?
This helps us understand a couple things:
- Tie Bar spacing always needs to be considered when planning which molds will go into your machine
- Day light is an important factor to consider, especially on molds with long cores (and require robot extraction)
- The tonnage required to make a good part (a function of the surface area of your shot)
Hybrid or Electric Injection Molding Machine?
- Hybrid or Servo-Hydraulic vs All-Electric Injection Molding Machine, we can provide you with either one. There are many advantages of All-Electric machines if you are able to justify.
Use this tool to calculate the operating savings you will realize over the life of the machine..
What is your mold stack height?
- This will help us understand and make sure that your mold will fit into the molding machine and that it will clamp tightly for processing and maintaining tonnage.
What are your daylight requirements?
- It is important for us to understand if your mold has long cores and/or you are using a robot for extraction, this way we are sure the mold will open far enough based on the machine clamp stroke.
What is the required shot size?
- This helps us understand how to size the barrel as well as perform a residence time study if required.
What kind of material(s) will you be running?
- This helps us understand what kind of screw and barrel to put on the machine as well as make sure we install the appropriate tip for optimal mix and flow.
Do you use Hot or Cold runners?
- This is always helpful to know as we specify the molding machine and/or a robot setup.
If Hot, do you use valve gates, if so, how many and are they sequenced?
- Our machines come with the complete software requirements to run a valve gated system. Please provide as much detail. We also work with RJG if you are implementing these controls as well.
Do you use core pull?
- Our machine comes with software controls for core pull, it is important for us to understand this up front as we are able to provide stand-alone hydraulic units with different flow rates.
If yes, how many, and are they electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic?
- Our machine comes with software controls for core pull, it is important for us to understand this up front as we are able to provide stand-alone hydraulic units with different flow rates.
If hydraulic, do you need a power pack quoted?
- Our machine comes with software controls for core pull, it is important for us to understand this up front as we are able to provide stand-alone hydraulic units with different flow rates.
Do you use unscrew, and if so, how many?
- This helps us understand what kind of hardware/controls we need to consider.
Do you use air eject, and if so, how many?
- This helps us understand how many valves will need to be installed.
Will you need a robot interface plug?
- It is important for us to understand this ahead of time so we install the correct SPI plug. Please consider there are 2 SPI standards; 32 pin and 50 pin.
- Both SPI standards can be reviewed here
Will you need an RJG eDart interface plug?
- This helps us understand which components will need to be installed specifically for your machine.
- If you need an eDart quote, you can find more information from us here..
Will you need ejector retract verification sensors?
- This is very helpful to specify from the beginning for ease of installation.
- These sensors can be quoted with your machine as well as purchased from our online store under Smartflow.
